Tate and Boekhoff State co champions, Gater wins reserve section.
Monday, October 1, 2007
Perennial favorite Emory Tate and Indiana’s newest master Andrew Boekhoff are the 2007 Indiana State Chess Co-Champions. Both players finished with 4/5 scores.
Entering the final round Boekhoff and Tate both had 3/4. Boekhoff lost to Monokroussos earlier in the tournament while Tate had draws against Jim Mills and Mike Herron. Both players had to work hard in the final round. Tate won on the white side of a complicated Vienna Game while Boekhoff navigated through a delicate position to beat Jim Dean in an endgame where he had a rook and two pawns for two pieces. Both players emerged from the final round victorious and now share the title.
The reserve section was won by Daniel Gater, a talented youngster from Fort Wayne. Daniel was undefeated with 4.5/5 points. Crosstables for the event can be found here.
