August 15, 2015. On Saturday, October 3, ISCA will be hosting the Team State Championship Chess Tournament in Terre Haute, Indiana at the Wabash Valley Activity Center in Downtown Terre Haute.

This is a 4 round over the board event. There are two sections, Open and Reserve. To be in the reserve section a team cannot have a player rated over 1600 on the team. Time controls will be G60 with a 10 second delay. Four games will be played per round, so teams consist of four players. A team can bring a total of 5 players with one player serving as an alternate per team. Board positions are determined by USCF ratings for the event. The entry fee is $100 per team with either four or five players before 10/01/15. The entry fee onsite will be $120 per team.

The top team in the Open section with all players from the state of Indiana will receive 4 plaques as the Open Section Team State Champion. The top team with all players from the state of Indiana in the reserve section will receive 4 plaques as the Reserve Section Team Champion.

Prize money for first and second in each section will be awarded and out of state teams can compete for the prize money.

This tournament is open to scholastic players as well. If you are student and wish to bring your school team to this event, you can compete for the plaques (with all Indiana residents) and prize money as well. Your team does not have to be restricted to players from your school. If four really good players who know each other from around the state who are still in school wish to form a team, that would be great.

Entry details are now posted on the ISCA website and additional tournament details are posted there. The entry form is available on the ISCA website.

Rumor has it that the host town is putting together a strong team for the Open section! Hopefully, other towns or groups of friends will do the same! Online registration will be up soon. And if you can register early it saves some money on the fee and allows the TD to check USCF and ISCA membership status and address issues ahead of time.

If you would love to compete in the team tournament, but don't have enough chess friends close by to form a team...send the TD a list of players through email...and I will let folks know of other interested players.

There will also be a scholastic individual event in the same building that day with players competing for trophies. There will be both rated and unrated sections in this tournament.

The organizer and chief TD for the event is Roger Norris (rnorris@ma.rr.com). Email him with questions!

Thanks!
